Mrs. Gertie Beale attended a post masters meeting in Rocky Mount Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Johnson and family of Newport spent the weekend with Mrs. R. C. Carter and family. Adult Class Has Cook-Out CONWAY - The Young Adult Sunday School class of the Conway United Methodist Church held its traditional Christmas steak cook-out at the church on Friday evening, December 29th. Twenty six class members and guests were at the gathering. Besides the steaks, the class was served baked potatoes, salad, rolls, and coffee or tea. Mrs. Elbert Long was in charge of the preparations and Bobby Bridgers acquired the steaks and was in charge of cooking them. The guests present were the Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Dillman; Mr. and Mrs. George R. Matthews of San Antonio, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Martin of Washington, N. Long spent the weekend in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cam Matthews, New Bern. Elijah Britt is a patient in Nash Gen. Hospital, Rocky Mount. He will undergo major surgery during the week. Mrs. Hattie Jernigan is a patient in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. Bryan. Cecil Maddrey and son, C. J. Ill, left Monday a.m. by plane from Norfolk to visit a John Deere combine factory in Waterloo, Iowa and a museum in Moline, Iowa. They also carolled at several places of shut-ins in Rich Square, Dusty Hill and Lasker. The young people on their return were entertained at a Christmas party at the Baptist Church. Adults accompanying the group on their caroling tour were;Mrs. Blannie Britton, Mrs. Martha White, Mrs. Clarine Outland and the Rev. Jack P. Morgan. The WMU Society of the Lasker Baptist Church under the direction of Mrs. Essie Warren, president and Mrs. Frances Daughtry, Community Missions chairman prepared and distributed Christmas cheer baskets to all the area shut ins and persons above 70 years young. The Lasker Youth Choir under the direction of Miss Donna Elks presented a program of Christmas music at the 10 a.m. worship service at the New Hope United Methodist Church Sunday, December 14. The same program was presented at the 11 a.m. worship service at the Lasker Baptist Church. The Rev. Jack P. Morgan, pastor of the Lasker Baptist Church is delivering during the 11 a.m. worship service a series of messages based on the Ninth Chapter of the Book of Isaiah, Verse 6. Due to the efforts of the WMU of f Lasker Baptist Church, all the Sunday morning worship services are recorded on tape and used in a ministry to shut-ins who are unable to attend church services. A regular schedule is followed on Sunday-Thursday to make the tape available to the shut-ins. Anyone wishing to hear or use the tape on Friday or Saturday of any week should contact either Mrs. Alise Askew, Mrs. Blannie Britton, or the Rev. Jack P. Morgan.
